About
We invest in conviction
We build with care
Nexum Capital is a deeptech investment and build studio based in Voorburg, Netherlands. We back early-stage founders and build our own products, because we believe the best investors are also operators.
The founding thesis
Nexum was founded on a simple observation: the best deeptech companies in Europe were struggling to find investors who understood what they were building. Not because those investors lacked intelligence, but because they lacked proximity. They had never written the code, never sat with the data, never faced the specific pressures of commercialising a technology that was genuinely ahead of the market.
Our founding team came from the technology side first. We built products, ran engineering teams, and operated in deeptech domains before we started writing checks. That sequence matters. It means our investment judgment is grounded in operational reality, not abstracted from it.
We chose to structure Nexum as a holding company rather than a traditional fund because we believed the model that would serve founders best was one that could operate alongside them, not just alongside their cap tables. That means we invest, we build, and we provide operational support, under one roof, with one aligned team.
What We Believe
Four principles that guide everything
01
Capital follows conviction
We do not deploy capital in search of a thesis. We develop a thesis first, through building, research, and deep engagement with the science, and capital follows from that conviction.
02
Operators, not observers
We have shipped software, managed engineering teams, and navigated the hard operational problems that come with building technology companies. We bring that experience to every investment.
03
Long horizons, early commitment
Deeptech requires patience. We commit early, maintain conviction through difficult periods, and measure success on timelines that reflect the actual complexity of what our portfolio companies are building.
04
Honest above comfortable
We believe that the most valuable thing an investor can offer a founder is an honest perspective, even when that perspective is difficult. We say what we think, and we expect the same in return.
